Put the PC on a cable
The single biggest fix: connect the PC to the router with Ethernet. The Mac can stay on Wi-Fi 5 or 6.
Fewer frames, less to carry
- Overtoaster → Settings → Video → Frame rate: 60 fps at most halves what the Wi-Fi has to carry.
- Settings → Video → Quality: Lowest latency uses less bandwidth than Best picture.
Find where the time goes
Press ⌃⌥⌘S in a stream for the statistics: they show whether the time goes to the PC, the network, decoding or the Mac. A high or jumpy network line means Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi tips
- Use the 5 GHz or 6 GHz band, not 2.4 GHz.
- Keep the Mac near the router, or add a mesh point near the PC.
- Other heavy traffic (big downloads, other streams) shares the same air.
